About

Welcome To Nowornot 2.0

In 2002-2003 our family lived on a boat for 13 months. We left our jobs, schools, and friends to explore Europe on our 16 meter Amel Super Maramu

In 2020, we decided to bring our website into the 21st century.

We are the Zuckermans

It’s been almost 20 years since we had the family adventure of a lifetime. Deb and I are no longer galavanting globe trotters, and our three adorable kids are now independent adults.

Deb and Steve:

Deb returned from the trip to teach at Stanford Business School and School of Education. In 2011, she suffered a severe stroke. Since then, she’s been leveraging her prior research in the fields of identity and social change in order to educate others about the traumatic impact of stroke on an individual’s sense of identity. In 2019, Deb, with enormous support from Steve and Danny as a co-author, published Identity Theft: Rediscovering Ourselves After Stroke. She is now working with Steve on Stroke Forward, their nonprofit geared toward helping stroke survivors move forward through the trauma of identity loss after stroke.

After sailing, Steve spent a couple of years as an at-home Dad. He then returned to work for Self Help Credit Union, where he’d worked before Business School, in order to run their California operation. Steve has spent the last (almost) 20 years fighting for economic opportunities for those who don’t have access through traditional banking. He is now pulling back from his work at Self Help to focus more energy on Stroke Forward with Deb.

Danny:

Danny finished his 8th grade year aboard Nowornot, then moved through high school onto a Political Philosophy degree at Stanford. After college, he worked for Bain in San Francisco, moved to New York to work for Zearn, and then spent eight months traveling through Southeast Asia and Africa. Now he is the co-founder of 3Box, a software startup using blockchain technology to create social networks and data sharing services with greater user privacy than traditional web applications.

Adam:

After graduating from Tufts University in 2018 with a degree in Political Science, Adam moved to San Francisco where he worked as a paralegal at Fragoman for a couple years. While there, he was contracted out to Uber, where he worked with their legal team on immigration and visas. Adam left Fragoman to go to Penn Law, from which he graduated in 2020. He is now moving back to San Francisco to work for Latham&Watkins. He is predominantly interested in emerging technologies, specifically those involving cryptocurrencies and blockchain, and published a paper on the practice of insuring digital assets. He still travels tons and spends lots of time outdoors.

Sarah:

Sarah finished out the trip rather reluctantly. Eventually she got over it and attended Amherst College, where she also played soccer for four years. She graduated in 2017 with a double major in Computer Science and Psychology. After graduation, she took time off to travel, and now works as a software engineer for PayJoy in San Francisco. She spends as much time as possible in some combination of the mountains and the ocean.
